EXHIBITION DESIGN
A collaboration with the Studio Museum on the very first exhibition in their temporary space on 127th Street in Harlem.
The inaugural exhibition titled “Radical Reading Room” was a site-specific environment to house printed matter, both curated and donated, that directly engages with Black visual and literary culture.
The temporary museum space- located in a warehouse garage- posed many challenges spatially. In order to maintain flexibility for various types of events, bookshelves and seating benches were broken into modular components and affixed to casters. The slanted surfaces sheathed in red book-binding cloth enable high visibility of the textured covers and elevate the printed matter to the status of museum objects.
